Routine is the Enemy!

You probably know someone who runs a lot. Day in and day out, this person runs mostly the same distance at the same speed. Do you ever notice a change in her physique? Not likely. That’s because her body has become very good at doing this one thing. Her body fat won’t decrease; her strength won’t increase.

The human body adapts quickly to a new stimulus. A runner’s body will burn fewer calories over the course of a few short weeks if the run distance and pace remain the same. The same rules apply to body builders. If you keep doing the same exercises your strength gains will plateau.

If you want to become stronger, faster and leaner you need to change your workouts frequently.  We’re not just talking about a runner doing the occasional interval session or a body builder swapping cable curls for barbell curls. You need to change everything. Runners need to hit the gym for some strength training and the gym rat needs to run some intervals.

The more constant the change in your routine the better your fitness will be. This is where CrossFit programming is most beneficial. It doesn’t matter if you’re a runner, a power lifter, or a weekend warrior. The constant variety in CrossFit programming means you will always challenging your body.

Variety, you could say, is the workout spice of life!
