Chocolate brownies are sooo yummy!

What! A health and fitness blog proclaiming the deliciousness of brownies?

Let me explain.

One of my favorite “diet” books is “Food Rules” by Michael Pollan (Penguin, 2009). In it Pollan lays out a simple plan for eating real, wholesome food. Most importantly he presents easy tips to navigate the food traps we all stumble on. Rules 39 and 60 relate rather well to the brownies.

In rule 39 Pollan suggests eating all the junk food you want as long as you make it yourself. Rule 60 reminds us that treats should be enjoyed occasionally.

Store bought or artificial mix brownies just won’t do. I just so happened to have all the ingredients for the brownies. And so on this rather miserable, rainy weekend my husband and I enjoyed some time in the kitchen making home made brownies.

We don’t often have the time to cook together and the brownies are a treat. We don’t indulge in junk food, homemade or otherwise, often. Brownies fit into our healthy lifestyle because it’s not something we do every day.

Occasional indulgence is healthy!
